Flower Poems
Why not have a go at writing a poem about a flower or a tree? To make it a bit more interesting, why not imagine your mum or dad or best friend has been transformed into a tulip, or a silly banana tree? Start off by imagining the sort of flower (or tree) they might be. They could be a daffodil, a daisy, a rose, a tulip, a snowdrop, a sunflower, a dandelion, a lily, a bluebell or a buttercup. Next think about what sort of colour your flower-person would be? Here are some good colours to get you started: Golden, red, white, blue, pink, orange, yellow, purple, silver, turquoise. Now have a good muse on an adjective to describe them. Are they a bouncing flower? Or a dancing, fluttering, swaying, twinkling, bobbing, glowing, dazzling, exciting, beautiful flower?! If your flower-person had petals, what would they be like? Bumpy? Shiny? Spiky? Would their leaves be: Ruffled? Trumpet-shaped? Curly? How would they feel? Flat? Thin? Warm? What would they smell like? A meadow? Summer? Rain? Once you have some ideas written down, think about where your flower-person would grow. In a flowerbed perhaps, or in a pot by your bed. Finally, what would you do with your flower-person? Have a look at Shannon's poem about her mum to give you some ideas: My Mum If my mum were a flower, she would be a dazzling silver tulip her petals would be huge and warm and gentle. Her leaves would be shimmery and elegant and exciting. She would feel soft and cosy, and would smell of beautiful blossom, flowerbeds and warm summer days. She would grow in a flowerpot in a garden, and I would shelter under her secret petals, feeling cosy.
